ART FOR HEALING

"Across many cultures, traditional healing included meditation upon sacred art. Although expressed in different ways, much sacred art has an underlying geometric framework guiding the arrangement of images. When constructed and used properly, these sacred designs can have a healthy effect upon the viewer." -- Michael S. Schneider, author of A Beginner’s Guide to Constructing the Universe: The Mathematical Archetypes of Nature, Art and Science

THE ART FOR HEALING GRANT

HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED TO FACILITATE THE ACQUISITION OF THE ARTWORKS

OF ASTRID FITZGERALD BY QUALIFYING HEALTHCARE INSTITUTIONS

ART FOR HEALING is based on the concept that beautiful art not only enhances our surroundings and enrich our lives, but may indeed have a restorative effect on human beings. Art that stills rather than agitates opens the heart of the viewer, resulting in a release of tension and perhaps provides a moment of contentment and harmony. Any refined art form or spiritual practice has the potential to promote states of equilibrium, tranquility, even bliss - conditions which have shown to enhance the healing and balancing of mind, body and spirit.

The Golden Mean Proportion, which Astrid Fitzgerald uses as an underlying structure in her work is such a refined form. It appears everywhere in nature and includes the proportions of the human body, as so beautifully demonstrated in the Vitruvian man by Leonardo DaVinci.

The Golden Mean is a mathematical system of proportion deriving from the pentagon and underlies organic life and natural patterns of order, and has long been recognized as being pleasing to the eye of the beholder. The ancients were aware of the ordering and healing effect of the Golden Ratio when they made use of it in their designs of temples, cathedrals and pyramids.
